Hubby and I saved almost all of our wedding money. We opened a savings account with some and put some in a CD for future use. Our only purchase so far had been a tent. But with winter looming we decided to buy a snow blower.
We bought it from Sears and werethisclose to applying for a Sears Mastercard to qualify for the 0% interest, 0 payments for 12 months and just take 12 months to pay it off. But the more we thought about it, the less we liked that idea and realized we'd be tempted to either not pay it off at the end of the 12 months or just buy things, putting it on the Mastercard since we already had it.
It felt so good to walk in there and be able to pay cash for a $600 snow blower. Yes, that may seem pricey but when you easily get 12 inches of snow overnight with 15+mph and have to leave for work by 7 am, there aren't many other options.
Actually we feel pretty lucky, 2 years ago our first sticking snow was on October 8!! And so far, we've been snow free! Yay!

All good Michiganders have Snowblowers! " ) Though you're a bit further north than I am!
We got lucky and bought an expensive one nearly brand new at a garage sale for $75!!
p.s. Good job avoiding the Sears addiction!
